English Essay by Brian Southwick

4, School Life 2 ネイティブスピーカー(ALT)によるREADING

Hello again, everyone. Did you enjoy my first essay about school life? Today I will tell you more about my junior high school days.
Do you eat school lunch, or do you bring a box lunch from home? Every day I take a homemade lunch to school and eat it in the teachers’ room. At my junior high school, all of the students have lunch in the cafeteria, not in the classrooms. We can choose a main dish, for example, pizza, a hamburger, or hot-dog; and there is a vegetable, some fruit, milk (plain or chocolate), and a dessert. Lunch is very cheap, too. It is about $1.50, or \180. And, if we want to have breakfast, we can have fruit, bread, and milk for free.
In Japanese schools there are many festivals. There is Sports Day, the Culture Festival, and so on. At my junior high school, we don’t have these festivals. And there is no school trip for third graders. But we take field-trips (ensoku) to museums and other interesting places. And we sometimes have dance parties in the school gym on Friday nights. School dances are very popular with students.
When I was a junior high student, we did not have to wear a school uniform. So, we could wear jeans, shorts, and t-shirts to school. But for P.E. class, we had a gym uniform. On hot days, we could take a shower after P.E. And, we could wash our dirty gym clothes at school!.
