English Essay by Brian Southwick

6 Favorite Places 2 ネイティブスピーカー(ALT)によるREADING

In my last essay I wrote about some of my favorite places in Niigata City. Now I will introduce some places in the countryside nearby.
When my parents came from America to visit me during Golden Week, I took them to Kakuda Mountain and Lake Sakata. My wife’s brother has a car, and he was very kind to drive us there. We went along the sea on the Seaside Line. It was a lovely spring day, with a cool breeze blowing from the sea and not a cloud in the sky. When we got to Mt. Kakuda, we stopped at a small village on the side of the mountain. There were many birds singing in the trees, and there was also an old temple. My parents enjoyed exploring it very much.
After that we went over the mountain on a very narrow, winding road. I thought the ride was exciting, but my parents were a little scared. Soon we arrived at Lake Sakata. In May there are not many birds on the lake, and the swans have all gone north for the summer. But my parents liked the view across the lake of Mt. Kakuda, and the Visitors’ Center had many interesting things to see. By now it was late in the afternoon, so we drove back to Niigata City.
I have talked with my parents since they returned to the U.S., and they have very good memories of their trip to Niigata this year.
