Do you remember my essay on Louisiana food? I wrote about some of the interesting and delicious foods in my hometown. In this essay I will tell you how to make one of my favorites, jambalaya.
You will need these ingredients to make jambalaya for four people: one large onion; one boneless breast of chicken; three green peppers; one stalk of celery; three links of hard salami; three cloves of garlic; boiled rice for four people; salad oil; salt, and pepper.
Jambalaya is made like Chinese fried rice, or “cha-han”. First, start boiling the rice. While the rice is cooking, you can prepare the other ingredients. Slice the salami, and chop the onion, garlic, celery, and green pepper. Cut the chicken into cubes. Next, put a little oil into a frying pan, turn on the heat, and start cooking the salami. Cook the salami until it is brown, but don’t burn it. Next, start cooking the chicken, and after a few minutes add the onion and garlic and cook them until they are soft. Last, put in the green pepper and the celery and cook them until they, too, are soft. When the vegetables are finished, turn off the heat.
When the rice is ready, put it in the frying pan with the vegetables. Turn on the heat and mix the rice and vegetables well. Then, turn off the heat. Add as much salt and pepper as you like. If you like spicy food, you can add some Tabasco, too. Stir the jambalaya once more. Now you are ready to enjoy a delicious Louisiana dish. Happy cooking!
