28 Changes

@@Fall is a season of changes.
There are changes all around us in nature. Fall is a time of change for me, too. At the end of November, I move to a new
school. I say goodbye to old students
and meet new ones. I often think about
the many changes to Niigata
City during the seven
years I have lived here. I think about
the places that are new. I also remember
the places that are gone forever.
@@@I moved to Niigata in September, 1999. Niigata
has changed very much since then. At
that time, the tallest building in Niigata City
was Next 21. I didnft know the city very
well, so when I became lost I looked for the building to help me
find my way home. Now, we have Toki
Messe, which is much taller than Next 21. On fine days the view from the top of
Toki Messe is beautiful, and the Bandai
Island Art
Museum is very nice, too. But now, when I look out of my apartment
window towards the mountains, Toki Messe blocks my view.
Both
Minato Tunnel and Ryuto
Bridge were built after I
moved to Niigata City.
Big Swan, Cross Pal, and Minatopia are new, too. Some students go to schools that have new
buildings. This fall and winter I teach
at two junior high schools, Funae and Yorii.
Funae students will move into their new school next month, and Yorii students go to school in buildings that are only about five years old.
I
think that Niigata City has changed more in seven years than my hometown,
Baton Rouge.
When I return to Baton Rouge every year, I
see some changes there. But, I think
that change happens more quickly in Niigata
City. I enjoy many of the new places in Niigata. But, I miss some of the old houses and
buildings that are now gone. |
