　　　Tsutomu Aragaki was born in Okinawa in 1952.  His father was Mexican-American and a member of the U.S. Army in Okinawa.  Tsutomu’s mother was Japanese.  Tsutomu’s father left him and his mother when Tsutomu was a little boy.  Tsutomu’s mother soon left to start a new life of her own.  So Tsutomu was brought up by his grandmother, who died when he was fourteen years old.  Tsutomu became very sad because he had no family.
　　Tsutomu always loved music.  When he was a little boy, he often sang solos at school.  When he was a teenager, he often went to cafes that played classical music.  One day Tsutomu heard some church music on the radio.  He thought the hymns were beautiful, and he wanted to listen to more.  He went to a church and asked the minister to play some hymns.  Then Tsutomu told the minister about his parents and grandmother.  The minister was moved by Tsutomu’s story, and he invited Tsutomu to become a member of his family.  Tsutomu was sixteen years old.
　    The minister and his family were quite kind to Tsutomu.  Tsutomu wanted to be a minister, too, and help people in the future.   He went to college to study to become a minister.  But the dream he kept in his heart was to become a singer.

　　　　A friend once took Tsutomu to Kobe to meet a famous Italian voice teacher.  The teacher was quite impressed by Tsutomu’s beautiful voice, and Tsutomu became one of his students.  A few years later, Tsutomu entered a music school in Tokyo to become a professional singer.　
   　 After he graduated, Tsutomu began singing at homes for old people, schools, and even Buddhist temples.  People liked to listen to Tsutomu’s wonderful voice, and they told their friends about his concerts.  More and more people became fans of Tsutomu.
   　 One of the fans became sick and couldn’t go to Tsutomu’s concerts.  The fan wrote Tsutomu a letter and asked him to record a CD.  Finally, in the year 2001, Tsutomu recorded his first CD.  One of the songs on the CD, “The Sugarcane Field”, was a big hit and made Tsutomu famous all over Japan.　
　　　Tsutomu now performs concerts in many cities in Japan.  “I want to sing for as many years as possible”, Tsutomu once said.  His fans hope to continue enjoying Tsutomu’s music for a long time.
